(1) Most of them are flammable

The majority of organic compounds exhibit low stability as they tend to decompose and deteriorate when exposed to temperature fluctuations, bacterial activity, air, or light.

(3) The reaction rate is relatively slow

(4) The reaction products are complex

Organic compounds are generally flammable, with a few exceptions. They have relatively poor thermal stability when compared with inorganic substances, and their electrolytes decompose easily when heated. Organic compounds typically have low melting points, rarely exceeding 400 °C. Due to their weak polarity, most organic compounds are insoluble in water. Inter-molecular reactions are the most common between organic substances, and they require some kind of activation energy, such as a catalyst. Additionally, the reactions of organic compounds are often complex. Under the same conditions, a single compound can undergo several different reactions simultaneously, resulting in various products.
