Acrylonitrile is a vital monomer essential in the production of synthetic fibers, synthetic rubbers, and synthetic resins. When converted into polyacrylonitrile fiber, it results in the high-performance acrylic fiber synonymous with synthetic wool. The acrylic fiber's properties are very similar to wool, indicating its excellent durability, making it highly in-demand. Nitrile rubber can be obtained by copolymerizing acrylonitrile and butadiene, which is known for its top-notch oil resistance, cold resistance, and abrasion resistance. It also has excellent insulation and solvent resistance properties, making it ideal for use in various applications. The combination of acrylonitrile and butadiene in styrene produces ABS resin, renowned for its lightweight, cold resistance, and impact resistance characteristics. The hydrolysis of acrylonitrile produces essential organic chemical raw materials such as acrylamide and acrylic acid and their esters. Acrylonitrile finds use in other organic synthesis and pharmaceutical industries and as a cereal fumigant. This product is an aprotic polar solvent, serving as the primary raw material for oilfield mud auxiliary PAC142. Additionally, acrylonitrile can undergo electrolysis and coupling, resulting in the production of adiponitrile. Hydrogenation of adiponitrile leads to the manufacture of hexamethylene diamine, a critical raw material used in the production of nylon 66. It also finds use in the manufacturing of water repellents and adhesives, among others.
